International postgraduate fellowships
In 2015, Dr Cox moved to London to complete dedicated subspecialty fellowships in his areas of interest. He completed his first two fellowships at St George’s Hospital in southwest London. Under leading UK arthroplasty surgeons, Mr Simon Bridle, Mr Philip Mitchell and Mr Jonathan Hutt, Dr Cox gained wide exposure to all aspects of primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. As the local tertiary referral centre for complex cases, the unit had a special focus on complex revisions for bone loss and the management of infected joint replacements.
Dr Cox then worked under Mr Omar Sabri and colleagues in the pelvic and acetabular trauma unit. As the major trauma centre for the southwest quadrant of the greater London area, he learnt about all aspects of contemporary orthopaedic trauma care and complex reconstructions.
Dr Cox spent the remainder of 2016 completing a knee fellowship at the Fortius clinic, a leading orthopaedic and sports injury clinic in central London. Under the supervision of leading UK knee surgeons, Mr Jonathan Lavelle and Mr Simon Church, they covered all aspects of modern knee surgery. This included arthroscopic ligament reconstruction and meniscal repair. They also focused on the surgical management of patellofemoral instability and early arthritis, including osteotomy and partial knee replacement.
My practice at Noosa
After returning to Australia in 2017, Dr Cox worked as a staff specialist at the Prince Charles (elective) and Royal Brisbane (trauma) hospitals in Brisbane. He moved to the Sunshine Coast and became the clinical Director of Orthopaedics at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) until 2021. He has handed over Director duties, but remains active in his public practice at SCUH, where he can focus on teaching young doctors and staff in his areas of interest.
Dr Cox lives locally in Tewantin with his wife and three children. He looks forward to a long and rewarding career in Orthopaedic surgery, providing specialist Orthopaedic services to the local community at Noosa Hospital, whilst indulging his interests in snow skiing, cycling and the beachside lifestyle.
